Global Vehicles is insisting it is “business as usual” despite a dispute with Mahindra & Mahindra concerning planned imports of the Indian automaker’s pick-up trucks into the US.
The issue has provoked claims from both sides and is now before a judge, although a timetable for any decision remains unclear.
“We are still waiting for a decision by the courts here. You would think there is some kind of set protocol. The ruling could come this afternoon or [in] three weeks,” a Global Vehicles spokesman in Georgia told just-auto.
Global Vehicles says it has placed a US$35m order for US-specification Mahindra TR20 and TR40 pickups, with nearly 350 dealers in 49 states waiting to sell the model.
“As Mahindra has stated, it said there would be a December unveiling date and as far as we know, there is nothing to preclude us from going towards that December launch,” added the Global Vehicles spokesman.
A statement from the Indian company last week said: “Mahindra believes that its position will be upheld in the legal proceedings. Mahindra will endeavour not to allow this dispute and the changed business circumstances to affect its plans to introduce its vehicles to the US.
“We will continue to make further information available to the public as the situation requires.”
Global Vehicles estimates sales could reach 30,000 units in the first year.
Mahindra was not available immediately for comment.
