Hyundai Motor affiliate Kia Motors has suspended production at its US plant in West Point, Georgia, for Monday and Tuesday (19 and 20 March), without saying why.
According to Reuters, local media on Sunday reported a fire had struck a Georgia factory operated by Daehan Solution, an unlisted South Korean parts supplier to Kia. A Daehan Solution official declined to comment.
A Kia spokesman also declined to comment to the news agency on the report and the possible impact on its US output.
“Production is currently scheduled to resume at 6:30 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, 21 March,” Kia said in a statement.
The automaker last year added the Optima sedan at Georgia which also produces the Sorento SUV and has annual capacity of 300,000 vehicles.
