New business from Japan’s big three automakers have seen UGN create 50 new jobs with a US$5m investment in its US Somerset facility, marking the third expansion since October last year for the acoustic, interior trim and thermal management product manufacturer.

Previous expansions included facilities in Jackson, Tennessee and Valparaiso, Indiana, resulting in a further 40 and 28 posts respectively.

“Recent business wins from Nissan, Honda, and Toyota allowed us to not only open new positions within our plants’ communities but also give our existing team members job and financial security,” said UGN CEO Peter Anthony.

UGN added it expected more growth in the future and cited 100 new jobs in the past 12 months bringing its staff total to 1,150, the highest in the company’s history.

UGN was founded in 1986 as a partnership between Nihon Tokushu Toryo (Nittoku) and Rieter Automotive Systems, now Autoneum.

The company has revenues in excess of US$250 million and has expanded to include six locations in the US – Chicago Heights, Illinois, Farmington Hills, Michigan, Jackson, Tennessee, Somerset, Kentucky, Tinley Park, Illinois, and Valparaiso, Indiana.
