The second model on Mitsubishi’s first global platform will be launched at the Detroit motor show in January.
The redesigned four-door Lancer sports sedan follows the recently redesigned Outlander SUV, versions of which will also be built for PSA brands Peugeot and Citroen.
Designed at studios in Europe and Japan, the Lancer sports sedan shares design cues with the 2005 Concept-X and Concept-Sportback show cars.
The new Lancer will be launched progressively world-wide markets starting in spring 2007 in North America.
Engine choices will range from a 1.5 litre 110 ps petrol unit in Europe through diesels (also in Europe) to a two-litre turbocharged petrol motor. A new Lancer Evolution supercar is also planned.
