Toyota’s US sales have soared around 35% year on year this month after the automaker offered incentives to lure buyers back into showrooms after recalling about 8.5m vehicles worldwide.

Toyota Motor Sales USA president Jim Lentz made the forecats on the sidelines of a forum sponsored by the National Automobile Dealers Association and IHS Global Insight, media reports in the US and Japan said.

Earlier this month, Toyota launched a large-scale sales promotion campaign featuring zero-percent financing for five years on top-selling models, including the Camry.

This, combined with resumed advertising, is expected to have propped up Toyota’s March US sales to around 180,000 units, a steep recovery from January and February.

In February, Toyota new car sales slipped 8.7%.

Major automakers are due to report March US sales on Thursday.
