Honda’s US premium brand Acura has begun selling a new Civic sedan-based entry level model called the ILX with a hybrid as one of three powertrain options.

It replaces the Canada-only CSX which was also (previous generation) Civic sedan-based.

ILX features include standard keyless entry and start, Pandora internet radio interface and SMS text message function, power sunroof, aluminium wheels and Bluetooth.

The entry-level version, priced from US$25,900, has a two-litre I4 and five-speed automatic transmission. A 2.4-litre engine with six-speed manual transmission is optional. The ILX Hybrid ($28,900) has a 1.5-litre petrol engine, integrated motor assist (IMA) electric motor and continuously variable transmission.

An optional premium package ($3,300 but not available for the hybrid) adds leather seating, heated front seats, power driver’s seat, upgraded 360 watt stereo system with XM satellite radio, HID headlights, foglights, 17-inch wheels, a multi-view rearview camera and an active sound cancellation system.

A technology package adds surround audio system and hard disk navigation and communications features.

Production began last month at Honda’s US plant in Greensburg, Indiana. The CSX was made in Alliston, Ontario.
