Honda Manufacturing of Alabama has marked its 10th anniversary by announcing it would spend an additional US$84m, hire 100 new full-time workers and increase annual production capacity to 340,000 vehicles and engines.
The $84m will be spent adding the Acura MDX SUV to existing production of the Honda Odyssey minivan, Pilot SUV, Ridgeline pickup truck and V6 petrol engines.
The plant will add a third stamping line to the existing two stamping lines which have the capability to produce vehicle body parts of both steel and aluminum.
With the latest announcement, HMA’s annual capacity will increase by 40,000 units to 340,000 vehicles and engines by 2013.
HMA employs around 4,000 people.
