Rebranding of US$100bn auto consumer and dealer finance company GMAC to ‘Ally’ in the US, Canada and Mexico will start next month.

Ally finances General Motors, Chrysler, Saab, Thor Industries and Fiat Mexico dealers and their customers.

“While our name has changed, our primary focus and core business continues to be automotive financial services,” said Ally president Bill Muir. “Our dealer customers and auto partners can count on our ongoing commitment.”

Ally provided over US$16b of credit to retail customers in the first half of 2010 in the US, Canada and Mexico, up over 120% year on year.

In the first six months of this year, the company averaged about $2bn of credit per month for US consumers.
