GM is recalling 900,000 Silverado and GMC Sierra pick-ups worldwide to fix a fault with tailgate cable that can corrode and break when loads are placed on them, according to a report on the Wall Street Journal website.

The fault affects 1999-2000 models and according to the newspaper there have been 84 injuries reported. Technically the action is not a recall but owners will be invited to take vehicles for an inspection to check for tailgate problems.
