General Motors said it had made 13 safety and noncompliance recalls with a worldwide total of 6,991,122 in the first quarter of 2014.

In a five-year tally, the lowest was 654,446 in 2012 and the second highest 4,003,766 in 2010.

The news came as the automaker last night recalled another 1.3m vehicles – this time to check electric power steering.
