General Motors is conducting another ignition switch-related recall but this time on much later model vehicles. Repairs will be made to the key fob, not the switch.
It is recalling 46,873 2011-2013 Australian-made Holden Commodore-based Chevrolet Caprice police vehicles built from 15 October, 2010, to 6 December, 2013, and the 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 variants built from 25 July, 2007, to 18 February, 2009 because the driver may accidentally hit the ignition key with their knee, unintentionally knocking the key out of the run position, turning off the engine.

If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position could cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash, GM said.
Dealers will remove the key blade from the original flip key/RKE transmitter assemblies and cut and fit a revised key blade and housing assembly in which the blade has been indexed by 90 degrees, to the original RKE transmitter assembly.
General Motors said at the weekend it was recalling more than 57,000 vehicles in the United States for potential problems.
The recall of 57,182 vehicles (inlcuding the Caprice and G8) in three categories came a day after GM recalled 524,384 cars and sport utility vehicles globally for different problems. The automaker now has issued 74 recalls this year, affecting some 30m vehicles, Reuters reported.

A loose electrical connection in the steering column led GM to recall 304 Chevrolet Sonics. GM will repair the bad connection, which could restrict full deployment of air bags in a crash.
A GM statement cited by Reuters said the automaker was unaware of any crashes, injuries or fatalities related to the recalled Cadillacs and Sonics.
Late last week, the company said it was recalling 430,550 Cadillac SRX and Saab 9-4X SUVs for possible loose joint and worn threads in the rear toe link assembly that could cause the vehicle to wander at highway speed and could possibly even separate, with the risk of causing a crash.
The company also recalled 93,834 newer South Korean-built Chevrolet Spark cars because of a risk of the hood opening unexpectedly during driving.
GM also said it had told U.S. dealers on Thursday to stop selling the newly introduced 2015 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-sized pickup trucks in advance of a recall to fix a potential air bag defect, Reuters noted.
