General Motors has called a press conference this afternoon (13:00EST; 18:00GMT) at its Lordstown complex in Ohio to make a “production announcement.”
It is expected the US automaker will announce plans to increase production of its upcoming Chevrolet Cruze compact to three-shift working in the light of higher American demand for smaller cars.
The importance of the news is highlighted by the attendance of GM president North America Mark Reuss, as well as manufacturing and labour chief Diana Tremblay.
Political attendees are expected to include Ohio governor Ted Strickland, congressman Tim Ryan “several other elected officials” and United Auto Workers local representatives.
