One-time Ford Motor president of international operations and global purchasing of Ford Motor Company, David Thursfield, has joined the board of  Clean Power Technologies, a developer of a heat recovery and hybrid power system to reduce vehicle emissions.

Thursfield, 61, has over 30 years’ senior-level experience in the automotive industry and was most recently chairman of Cerberus Automotive Group from 2004, the automotive sector division of private equity firm, Cerberus Capital Management, which recently purchased a $US7.4bn majority interest stake in Chrysler from DaimlerChrysler.

Clean Power president and CEO Abdul Mitha said: “I am personally thrilled to welcome a gentleman of such international industry calibre to our board and we see his willingness to join us as a validation and endorsement not only of our unique heat recovery and hybrid power system but also our business strategy and market potential.”

Prior to joining Cerberus, Thursfield held key operational and purchasing roles at Ford which he joined in 1979.  From 1998 to 2001 he was vice president of vehicle operations at Ford Automotive Operations and from 2001 to 2002 was chairman, CEO and president of Ford of Europe.

Clean Power Technologies develops hybrid power technology and alternative fuel for a range of vehicles from light cars to locomotives. It claims its proprietary technology significantly reduces pollution through its Clean Energy Storage and Recovery (CESAR) system, which takes otherwise wasted heat from the exhaust of a conventional combustion engine and modifies it through a heat recovery system to generate power.
