Ford, recalling two of its best-selling US models, has said repairing the cooling system (with a software fix) on the 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine used in the Escape [Kuga] and Fusion [Mondeo] won’t negatively affect financial results.
“It will have no material impact,” said Raj Nair, the automaker’s product development chief told the Chicago Tribune. “It’s covered by what we have in the warranty reserves.”
Ford has recalled 73,320 Escapes and about 19,000 Fusions with the engine sold in North America.
Cars using the engine in Europe will not be recalled. The European version of the Escape [Kuga] is currently being launched, the Mondeo equivalent of the Fusion makes its debut in 2014.
