Ford has named Marcos de Oliveira as president of Ford Mercosul from 1 December 1. The Brazil native has previously managed Ford’s operations in Mexico and in South Africa.

In Mexico, Oliveria oversaw the installation of the Hermosillo plant assembly line – an estimated investment of $US1.6bn, according to AutoData.

Currently, Oliveira is executive director of the monoblock platforms unit, in the product development area of Ford North America. In his new position he will report to Dom DiMarco, president of Ford South America and executive director for Canada and South America.

Oliveria replaces Barry Engle, who will be returning to the US to a new position linked to the company’s restructuring. He will report directly to Mark Fields, president of Ford of the Americas.

Engle was at the helm in Brazil for little more than a year. He took over in May 2006.
