Ford said its Focus model was the world’s best-selling passenger car in 2012, boosted by demand from China and the US.
According to automotive consulting firm Polk, Ford sold 1,020,410 Focus models last year. More than one in four were sold in China.
Sales of the model in the US were up 40% in 2012.
Toyota claims its Corolla line would have outsold the Ford by 186,000 units if derivatives sold under other names such as the North American Matrix were included.
