Chrysler is recalling some 780,500 people carriers and Ford around 690,000 Escape and C-Max models in North America and Mexico.
The Chrysler recall involves 2010-2014 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country minivan models. The recall comes after reports of overheating, including some fires, in third-row power vent window switches. Chrysler said there had been 36 reported incidents of overheating but did not say if any fires had been reported.

Chrysler said customers would be advised about when they can schedule repairs. They can also visit dealers after 14 May to have the switches disconnected to eliminate the risk of overheating.
The company also announced the recall of 4,141 Fiat 500e electric cars to replace the power inverter module to stop a slow coolant leak onto electrical components that can cause a short circuit and power loss while driving.
Meanwhile, Ford is recalling 2013 and 2014 model year Escape SUVs and C-Max hybrids to fix a potential software problem that could delay deployment of the side curtain rollover airbags in certain accidents. Nearly all the models were sold in the US, with around 78,00 in Canada and 19,500 in Mexico.
Ford said no accidents or injuries related to the problem have been reported.
