The US Commerce Department is expected to propose that Chinese software in Level 3 autonomous vehicles (AVs) and connected vehicles should be barred, Reuters reports.

It follows earlier reports that US was planning to issue rules limiting Chinese vehicle software.

Under the Biden administration’s most recent proposal, automakers and suppliers would be required to verify that none of their connected vehicle or advanced autonomous vehicle software was developed in a “foreign entity of concern” like China.

Asked for a comment by Reuters, a Commerce Department spokesperson said that the department “is concerned about the national security risks associated with connected technologies in connected vehicles.”
