Would-be European buyers of General Motors’ premium brand Cadillac wanting a diesel may have to wait as much as three years for the engine most automakers see as essential for luxury car success on the Continent.
WardsAuto.com said Cadillac would launch a second wave of new products following the Detroit unveiling of the 2015 ATS coupe this week and the redesigned Escalade large SUV later this year but the focus would be on the US and China (where some models are assembled) in the near term.
“There are more Cadillacs under development now than any time in our history,” Bob Ferguson, vice president, Global Cadillac, told Wards ahead of the ATS coupe reveal.
“Right behind the Escalade, there is an entire series of vehicles.”
The ATS Coupe is the fourth new product from the brand in the past 18 months.
New models such as the ATS compact and CTS large cars have helped to make Cadillace the fastest growing luxury brand in the US.

Ferguson would not reveail details of future Cadillacs.
In China, sales last year rose 67% to 50,005 units after the launch of new models such as the XTS and ATS and the groundbreaking of a new assembly plant. Cadillac plans to add one new model in China each year to the end of 2016.
Ferguson told Wards development was under way for right hand drive models but the important diesel engine the brand currently lacks remains 24 to 36 months away.
