Chrysler is hiring up to 500 extra part-time workers at its Illinois plant to make the Alfa Romeo Giullietta-based Dodge Dart which goes into production in the second quarter.
The Belvidere factory currently employs 2,700 on two shifts and also builds the Jeep Compass and Patriot. The Dart replaces the Caliber there.
Although the Dart is adapted from the Giulietta hatchback, it is a four-door saloon and media reports suggest that it was well received at the Detroit motor earlier this month.
