Chrysler is recalling 212,347 tyre pressure monitor-equipped 2007 and 2008 Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger sedans in the US because they may have faulty electrical connectors in the system.

The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on its website that corrosion could lead to a short circuit, which in turn could cause battery problems, difficulty in starting the engine, and stalling.

Chrysler received nine reports of stalling, but none of accidents or injuries.

Most of the recalled vehicles were sold in the US and a Chrysler UK spokeswoman could not say immediately if the recall affects right-hand drive cars sold here or the left-hookers exported to Europe and elsewhere.

In the US, Chrysler will, beginning in mid-April, re-seal the monitors or replace them free of charge.
