Chrysler Group idled its minivan assembly plant in Windsor, Ontario, this week because of parts shortages unconnected with the Japanese earthquake.
“These supply shortages are not related to the disaster in Japan,” Chrysler said in a statement cited by Reuters.
Chrysler builds the Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country [exported as the Grand Voyager] and the Volkswagen Routan derivative at the plant which employs about 4,200 hourly workers on three shifts.
It is the second time this year that Chrysler has suspended production at the minivan plant due to a parts shortage, Reuters noted. In late January, Chrysler said it would shut down the plant for a week.
