The numbers are hardly likely to scare the likes of Toyota, which exported almost this many cars alone in November from Japan, but Chrysler’s sales outside North America of 238,218 units set a record and was up 15% year on year.


December sales grew 6% to 22,004 units.


All the regions outside North America posted sales gains for the year, led by Middle East/North Africa with a 64% increase (21,171 units) over 2006.


Latin American sales increased 22% (45,199 units), Eastern Europe was up 30% (12,775 units), and Asia Pacific grew 22% (33,715 units). Western/central Europe, which accounts for roughly half of Chrysler’s international sales, achieved 6% growth in 2007 (117,675 units).


In Italy, the company’s highest volume single market outside North America, the Chrysler brand was the leader in the large MPV segment for the 15th consecutive year. In some markets, such as the Netherlands, recently-introduced Dodge was the fastest growing brand in the country.

Dodge’s Caliber was the highest sales volume export vehicle for Chrysler in 2007 (30,937 units), helping the brand to almost double sales from the previous year when its availability was expanded to include all major markets where Chrysler has a presence. In 2008, Dodge will boost its portfolio outside North America as new Journey crossover SUV/minivan reaches customers mid-year.


Jeep sales jumped 13% (96,924 units) to make it the top-selling export brand in 2007, led by the Grand Cherokee.


International markets will get the redesigned Cherokee (Liberty in North America) this year.


Jeep, crucially, offers all seven vehicle lines with right-hand-drive and diesel engine options.
