Newly-privatised Chrysler is building on recently-announced new executive appointments and future product plans with the announcement it will expand its US market certified pre-owned vehicle (CPOV) programme eligibility to all qualifying dealers there. Previously, its was limited only to so called ‘Five Star’ dealers.

US sales chief Darryl Jackson said: “Opening the programme to all of our dealers is a win-win situation; in which dealers can introduce certified shoppers to the best assortment of pre-owned… vehicles available.”

Chrysler launched the programme as a Five Star Dealer exclusive in the spring of 2002 and claims its brand is the fastest growing in the certified-used segment.

Marking 14 consecutive years of industry growth, certified pre-owned vehicle industry sales figures to 31 December 2007 were up 2% year-to-date, according to Autodata. Chrysler’s own sales were up 5%, the sixth consecutive year the CPOV brand sales growth rate has more than doubled the industry segment.

“Given the considerable success [our] initiative has enjoyed already, we have high expectations for continued growth as we expand eligibility to more dealers this year,” Jackson said.

Marketed as ‘Brand Spankin’ Used’ the Chrysler certified used vehicles sold only through dealerships that have had a comprehensive validation of the dealership’s facilities, operational processes, salesperson and technician training accreditation.

For certification under the Chrysler programme, a vehicle must be a 2003 to 2008 model used vehicle with less than 65,000 miles and pass a stringent 125-point mechanical, safety and condition standard inspection. Vehicles are then sold with an eight-year/80,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, 24-hour, 365-day full roadside assistance with a $35 per day rental car allowance and a three-month or 3,000-mile ‘Maximum Care’ warranty that supplements any remaining three-year factory new vehicle warranty.

Chrysler Financial offers special financing programmes for qualified CPOV buyers, and along with the Carfax Vehicle History Report, a Carfax limited buyback guarantee is also offered.
