Volkswagen is recalling over 413,000 Golf, Rabbit, Jetta and Beetle models to check for fuel leaks.

The recall covers the Golf, Rabbit, Jetta and Jetta Sportwagen models from the 2007 to 2009 model years and 2006-2010 Beetles, Reuters reported.

Of the total, 377,000 of the cars are being recalled in the United States with the remainder in Canada, the report said.

Golf, Rabbit and Jetta models have a plastic tab on the windscreen fluid container that could rub against a fuel line and cause a leak to develop while the Beetle has a power steering system fastening clamp that could cause the same kind of problem.

All of the vehicles were manufactured in Mexico. Repair work starts in January.
