General Motor’s Cadillac XTS sedan, referred to as the ‘black car’ by the livery industry, is ready for launch.

The XTS will reach dealerships in late spring 2012 or early summer. The new vehicle is a part of a product plan to make Cadillac more appealing to import luxury car buyers.

The target buyers are the owners of Audi A6, BMW 5 series and Mercedes-Benz E class, said Patrick Nally, XTS marketing manager.

In 2011, output of Ford’s Lincoln Town Car and the rival Cadillac DTS ended. Lincoln plans to modify the MKT crossover for the livery and limo business and Cadillac is relying heavily on the XTS.

There likely is an opportunity for Cadillac.

Nally said: “A lot of people will not consider Cadillac that buy Mercedes or BMW. The appointments in the livery model will be nearly identical to the high-quality appointments in the retail version of the XTS.”
