Cadillac CEO Johan De Nysschen has revealed some secrets of the brand’s future engines. The two main revelations are a biturbo V8 for the CT6 and that new diesels are delayed until 2019.

De Nysschen disclosed the plans during an online Q&A with readers of Jalopnik. The CT6, which was previewed in a TV ad on 22 February, will be fully revealed on 31 March, just ahead of its public debut at the New York auto show.

Cadillac’s next big sedan will feature a “lightweight body structure [which] allows us to achieve formidable performance even with a twin-turbo V6. Imagine how this car would perform with a twin-turbo V8.” He then added that the car would offer “a very wide mix of engines, starting with a two-liter turbo, up to, eventually, a high-performance advanced V8 turbo.”

One of the biggest problems for the brand is its miniscule sales in Europe. Some of the reason for that is the large capacity petrol engines offered in its cars and SUVs. Acknowledging that this is an issue, De Nysschen stated, “We will have four-cylinder and six-cylinder diesel engines, but not before 2019.”

It seems that a return to the UK market is not a priority: “We are looking at right-hand drive models for future products, and also diesels, so this should be feasible around 2020”.
