BorgWarner says it is to supply its variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbochargers for the newly-developed 1.4L, three-cylinder diesel engines from the Volkswagen Group.
The component manufacturer maintains its VTG turbochargers boost the performance of the 55kW (75PS) and 66kW (90PS) diesel engines.
Both engines comply with Euro 6 emissions standards and improve fuel economy by up to 21%. Debuting in the VW Polo, the 55 kW diesel engine achieves an average fuel consumption up to 75mpg (3.1 litres/100 km).
Based on the modular diesel engine system, the low-emission engines will be available for several vehicles from Audi, Seat, Škoda and VW.
“We value our successful and long-standing partnership with the Volkswagen Group,” said BorgWarner Turbo Systems president and general manager, Frederic Lissalde.
“BorgWarner is pleased to provide its latest turbocharging technology for Volkswagen’s modern diesel engines to achieve optimum power output with improved fuel economy.”
