BMW Group has announced a 9.9% rise in worldwide sales for 2005.


Chairman Helmut Panke said he sees potential for further sales growth in 2006. Speaking at the Detroit motor show, he noted: “We expect the BMW Group to remain on the course of growth in 2006 also. Therefore, we aim at increasing our retail volume further and we aim at achieving a new retail peak this year.”


1,328,000 BMW vehicles were delivered worldwide in 2005, compared with 1,208,700 in 2004. BMW sales of 1,126,800 were up 10.1% year on year. Mini sales rose 8.7% to 200,400.


The redesigned 3 series accounted for 17% of BMW sales in 2005.The X3 increased volume 10% to 110,700 vehicles while the larger X5, in its final year saw sales did just 3.3% year-on-year to 101,500.


The US was the top BMW market in 2005, 307,000 group vehicles were sold there, up 3.7% on 2004. 295,900 vehicles were sold in the German home market, up 4.3%.

UK sales rose 7.7% to 162,550 while Italian deliveries rose 17% to 90,300. BMW sales in Japan were up 13.5% to 58,800 last year.
