Avis is adding 500 Nissan Altima Hybrid vehicles to its US rental car fleet, available initially only in California.
“The new addition gives customers a choice when renting a gas[petrol]/electric hybrid vehicle, with the option of selecting either the Toyota Prius, a compact hybrid vehicle, or the Nissan Altima, a full-size hybrid vehicle for those desiring more room,” Avis said. The hire firm added 1,000 Priuses to its fleet earlier this summer.
The Altima line was designed specifically for North America and is built in the US. The hybrid version has a 2.5-litre, I4 engine, fuel economy estimated at 42 miles per US gallon (city) and 36mpg (highway) and gained an ‘advanced technology partial zero emission vehicle’ classification under US emission laws. Standard features include push-button start, cruise control, keyless entry, power door locks and windows and dual zone automatic temperature control.
The Altima hybrid will be available at Avis locations in California while the Prius is offered in California, Portland, Oregon, Seattle and Washington, DC. It will also be available in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, New York City and Philadelphia by the end of the year.
“These vehicles fulfill a variety of customer needs and desires,” said Becky Alseth, senior vice president of marketing for Avis Budget Group.
