Fiat Chrysler US is recalling 2014-2015 167,749 Jeep Cherokee vehicles for an airbag control software upgrade.

The affected vehicles were assembled between 1 January, 2013 and 19 November, 2014 and, according to an NHTSA bulletin, “may experience unintended side curtain and seat air bag deployment during vehicle operation”.

Dealers will “re-flash” the occupant restraint control module software.

Some older Jeep models were included in a recall of 2.12m vehicles that also included Toyota and Honda models announced last week. In that case, many of the vehicles had already been recalled but NHTSA said around 40 vehicles previously repaired had experienced inadvertent airbag activation.
