An industrial accident that resulted in the death of a worker at an Italian Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) plant has resulted in strike action. The death has led to an investigation by magistrates and demands from the labour union for improved safety measures.
According to Reuters the death of the 40-year-old man – Fabrizio Greco – occurred in an accident at the Cassino plant as he was moving a mould in the cold press area of the plant as part of standard operating procedure.

FCA said the company is actively collaborating with the authorities that are looking into the causes of the ‘tragic and exceptional accident’.
The Reuters report said three main Italian metal engineering unions, FIOM, FIM and UILM, called for an eight-hour strike on Tuesday in Cassino, where FCA builds Alfa Romeo models.
In a joint statement put through a basic translation service, Fiom-Cgil Secretary General, Francesca David and Fiom-Cgil national secretary and automotive manager, Michele De Palma, said: “Fiom joins the mourning and expresses its full solidarity with the family.
“We need a discussion on investment, training and health and safety in the workplace. A government initiative is needed to increase prevention and controls with inspection services, which are now increasingly understaffed.”
