Bavarian Police confirm there were 13 people taken to hospital following this morning’s (15 May) explosion at Schaeffler’s Eltmann plant in Germany, with four casualties seriously hurt.
Around 120 firefighters attended the scene of the blast, although Police are as yet unable to detail why the explosion occurred.
“The explosion was at 10:15 this morning,” a Bavarian Police spokesman told just-auto. “We have 13 workers injured – they [were taken] to hospital. Four people were seriously injured.
“There were no toxins in the air outside. Police and the prosecuting attorney look for reasons [as to the explosion’s cause]. We have evacuated the factory.”
Schaeffler’s Eltmann plant manufactures rolling bearing components.
The supplier is due to come back to just-auto with further details.
