Dubai authorities working with Japanese car manufacturers have seized and destroy a large number of counterfeit car parts. The case also led to a successful prosecution in the Dubai courts, according to AMEInfo.com, which noted that the case was begun by Honda, Mazda, Nissan and Toyota.
The report said that, working on information provided by the manufacturers, Dubai police initially seized two truckloads of counterfeit car parts and then moved onto six warehouses used by the trader to successfully seize an additional three truck loads of counterfeit parts. The raids resulted in the removal from the market of approximately 45,000 counterfeit oil and fuel filters.
“This is a very good result both for the car manufacturers and the UAE,” the four car makers said in a joint statement. “The quantities seized are indicative of the size of the problem that businesses and the UAE government are facing.”
AMEInfo.com said those accused in the case were found guilty by the Dubai court of possession of counterfeit commercial products for sale and sentenced to a month in jail. The court also ordered that the goods be destroyed and that the defendants publish the judgement at their own expense in the emirates’ Official Gazette.
