Production figures released by the United Kingdom’s Office for National Statistics show that car production in July climbed 4.6% to 140,793 units from 134,549 in 2002.

Output for the year-to-date was up 1.2% to 998,363 and export production rose by 9.5% in July to 92,916 units and 7.8% year-to-date (670,562).

Production for the UK market eased slightly in July, following a massive increase in June, but output remains on course to meet a full year total of 1.65 million.

July 2003 commercial vehicle production dipped 0.5% in July 2002 to 15,147 units but YTD output was up 1.3% over the same period last year to 111,143. Output for the UK market rose strongly again but exports cooled as eurozone investment demand stayed stagnant.

Truck production grew, despite the loss of ERF and Seddon Atkinson volumes over the year-to-date, but the real growth remains in the light commercial vehicle sector. Overall, full year volumes should hit 195,000 units.
