Welsh assembly government members visited body-in-white and stampings supplier Stadco’s plant in Wales yesterday (15 December), to evaluate the company’s investment that has created eight new jobs and secured a further seven posts.

Stadco received around GBP25,000 (US$39,000) from the assembly’s grantassistance Programme to help fund new manufacturing facilities.

New equipment included a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) and teardown room, a manufacturing cell and a robot roller hemming cell. The facility carries out measurements for the Land Rover Defender high capacity pickup unit.

“We are delighted to see the visible impact of the grant assistance programme at Stadco Powys, both in terms of new manufacturing facilities and obviously additional jobs,” said assembly executive director Geraint Davies.

The redesigned robot roller hemming cell was funded through the assembly’s research, development and innovation scheme and is the first of its kind at the supplier’s Powys plant.

The cell will initially produce bonnets and rear doors for the Land Rover Freelander.
