Following on from the Polo version, Volkswagen is widening its eco-friendly BlueMotion line here in the UK, adding Golf, Golf Plus, Golf estate, Jetta and Passat saloon and estate versions, all with a single 105PS 1.9-litre turbodiesel (Polo has a 1.4).
VW also noted that, following Tuesday’s announcement of changes to London’s congestion charges, from 27 October the Polo and the new Golf BlueMotion, in vehicle excise duty bands A and B respectively, will both be exempt from the charge.
BlueMotion represents the most efficient model in each of Volkswagen’s passenger car ranges. In each vehicle a combination of revised aerodynamics, optimised gear ratios, a new turbocharger and hard compound tyres is applied. The effect is a reduction in loading on the engine resulting in a rise in efficiency and lower emissions.
The 1.9-litre TDI engine in the new models has a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The Golf achieved a EU combined test cycle fuel economy figure of 62.8mpg and CO2 emissions of 119g/km and has a theoretical range of 750 miles on its 55-litre fuel tank.
The Golf BlueMotion models have Climatic (semi-auto) air conditioning as standard as well as a multifunction display for the optimum moment to change gear. Hydraulic brake assist, electronic stabilisation programme and traction control are also standard.
