Visteon is launching its dockable DVD family entertainment system as an optional accessory in the new BMW 3 Series. Visteon says it was the first supplier to introduce the aftermarket version of this technology and has worked closely with BMW to develop a unique solution meeting the high standards of the marque.
“A customer-unique product design is key and our existing docking station and media player has been tailored to meet BMW’s requirements. The flexibility of this new product makes it very appealing to the end-consumer – adults and children alike,” said Hans Eric Destrée, Visteon commercial director for Aftermarket mobile electronics, Europe.
The dockable DVD system is now available as an option in the new BMW 3 Series and will be gradually introduced in the BMW 5 Series, the X3 and X5 starting in June, 2005.
Visteon’s dockable entertainment system weighs approx. 2.5 kg and offers consumers a 10.2 inch viewing screen, remote control and infrared headphones. The docking unit and portable clamshell DVD player are designed as a modular unit allowing the DVD player to simply lock into the roof mounted docking unit.
When docked, the player uses the vehicle power supply to charge its own batteries. The unit can be taken anywhere and be used for three hours on its own batteries.
