Transport and automotive union Amicus is meeting with Mayflower administrators on Wednesday to discuss measures to protect pensions and keep the Transbus bus-building unit together.

Debt-burdened Mayflower collapsed last week with an underfunded workers’ pension fund (though a healthy pension pot reportedly had been set aside separately for directors) and the administrator, Deloitte, announced on Tuesday that 300 jobs would be lost across the UK.
“The shop stewards and national officials are meeting with the company this morning,” a union spokesman said.
“Our first priority is to keep Transbus’ transport and components section together. The unit was created in the first place for protection and we must take whatever steps necessary to market the unit as a very successful going concern. It would be a disaster if the skills and experience within the workforce remains under threat.”
