Toyota Manufacturing UK (TMUK) is to go ahead with its planned shutdown next week as it looks to compensate for the ending of scrappage schemes across Europe.
The Japanese automaker will shut for a week of non-production from 29 March to 1 April and during the Easter period – 6 April – 9 April.
TMUK previously said it would substitute extra holiday for the shutdown and impose a pay freeze, following the conclusion of its salary review process.
Temporary closures will affect TMUK plants at the Burnaston and Deeside sites, which will have some maintenance, but no production.
Contacted by just-auto, a TMUK spokesman in Burnaston said the decision had been taken to issue an update on the closure plans due to media interest.
“The non-production will be from 29 March [and] there will be no members in work from 31 March,” the TMUK spokesman said.

By GlobalData“Members will be on site from 29 March, but there will be no production. Members will do preparation for the Auris hybrid. It is down-time so that we can prepare for the launch.”
Total non-production dates will be from 29 March with a restart on 12 April, although those times straddle UK public holidays in the Easter period.
TMUK has been operating a 10% reduction in hours and pay since 1 April last year and will continue to offer a ‘voluntary release programme’ with the aim of shedding 750 workers.
