Torotrak says it has obtained the necessary shareholder approvals to complete its acquisition of Flybrid Automotive.

The deal enables Torotrak to commercialise a hybrid system, to be known as Flybrid M-KERS, a development the company says independent research has identified as one of the most cost-effective powertrain technologies for reducing CO2 emissions.

It also adds financing and expertise to accelerate the development of Torotrak’s other variable transmission technology applications.

Last year, Torotrak CEO Jeremy Deering, told just-auto. “They [Flybrid] are very motivated and very canny – the combination is going to be very powerful.

“Flybrid will be the branding for all mechanical KERS [energy recovery system] activities – it is a great name.”
