UK-based Body-in-White and stampings supplier Stadco is to shut its Coventry facility with the loss of 165 jobs.

However, Stadco anticipates 96 new jobs being created at other UK sites. The firm has other plants in Birmingham and Shrewsbury.

Stadco intends to move its work and equipment to three sites in the West Midlands and Wales.

Stadco said that following the 90-day consultation period with the unions and employees it has ‘regretfully confirmed the closure of volume manufacturing at its Holbrook Lane, Coventry, plant’.

It said it is the company’s intention to retain its very successful Prototyping business on the site for an as yet undefined period of time until a long-term location is identified.

The company is beginning individual consultations with employees, and no compulsory redundancies are envisaged before March 2010.
