Spanish car maker Seat’s UK unit has reported the resurgence of white as a paint colour choice and has introduced a new range of extra-cost ‘Custom Palette’ colours including ‘Lumina Orange’ and ‘Speed Blue’.


At the beginning of the year, UK marketing staff predicted Candy White, previously a “utilitarian hue favoured mostly by van drivers and police patrol car pilots”, would be the “next big thing” in car colours.


In the seven months to the beginning of August, 886 white Seats (of the brand’s 19,545 year to date total) were sold here in the UK, up 3,592% on the 2007 period when just 24 were registered.


Seat said the shift to white, highlighted by the popularity of its sporty Leon Cupra K1 in the colour, is just the beginning of a planned colour-co-ordinated assault on drab British street scenes.


It is now launching more new shades – called Custom Palette colours and priced at GBP550 RRP. The selection includes Lumina Orange, Speed Blue, Kiwi Green and Furia Grey for the sporting Leon models.
