The one-millionth Peugeot 206 to be built in Britain at the PSA Peugeot Citroën manufacturing plant in Coventry rolled off the production line on February 18.
Since its production launch in August 1998, the 206 has become one of the UK’s top sellers and is claimed to be the best selling retail car (i.e. excluding fleet sales) for the last three years, with over 443,884 sold.
The Coventry plant at Ryton is the only one in Europe building the 206 SW range and the sporty GTi 180 derivative.
It is also claimed to be the only car factory in Europe working a seven-day week on a four-shift basis. Production now stands at 750 cars per day with over 53% of UK production being exported to both right and left-hand drive markets.
