Football-mad Britons will tonight see Arsenal#;s French striker Thierry Henry front a new Renault Clio TV advertisement timed to coincide with the soccer World Cup games in Japan and Korea.

French advertising agency Publicis has bought time during tonight’s first instalment of a new Big Brother series and the ‘ad#; will see Henry trying to find out what Renault#;s ‘Va Va Voom#; catchphrase means.

Media commentators say it#;s the first time Renault has used a celebrity in TV ads although a French theme has featured since the Clio was launched back in 1991.

In Britain Renault is well known for its ‘Nicole and Papa#; TV spots where a young woman uses her Clio for romantic encounters without Father#;s knowledge.

“The new campaign is primarily aimed at a younger, male audience and reflects the popularity of the sporty versions of Clio, especially the Renaultsport 172 version featured in the ad,” Renault UK national advertising manager Jonathan Wignall told the Guardian newspaper.
