Competition for the Nemo, Fiorino and Bipper, as well as the Berlingo and Partner will be provided by the new Renault Kangoo light van, which made its UK debut at the CV Show.
The second generation to carry the Kangoo name, the latest model is available in two sizes.
The current model is based on the late 1990s Renault Clio, but the latest models are based on the Renault Scenic platform. The Kangoo Compact will take on the new small vans from Citroën, Fiat and Peugeot, by offering a similar load capacity to the current Kangoo.
The Compact can lug a 500kg gross payload and offer 2.3m3 of load volume. The larger standard model is 180cm longer than the current Kangoo and will offer a 2.67m3 load volume which, like several competitors, can be extended by folding the passenger seat back down. 650kg and 800kg payload variants are included in the range.
Engines are mostly carried over from the current Kangoo range, providing 90bhp and 105bhp 1,600cc petrol engines. Three diesels will be available, all based on Renault’s 1,500cc common-rail diesel, available with power outputs of 70bhp, 85bhp and 105bhp. Petrol models will be available with either manual or automatic gearboxes, while diesels are offered with either five or six-speed manual boxes. Kangoo Compact power comes from the 90bhp petrol engine and 70bhp or 85bhp diesels.
