Tod Evans, chairman, Peugeot Citroën Automobiles UK Ltd (PCA UK), has today been announced as the next president of SMMT. He succeeds Mike Baunton, president of Perkins Engines Company Ltd, leading the motor industry trade association for the next 12 months.

Commenting on the announcement at the Society’s Annual General Meeting in London, Tod Evans said: ‘I am proud and privileged to be taking on the influential role of president of SMMT for the coming year. The motor industry represents a significant part of the UK economy and there are many important issues that face us in the next
12 months. I want to play my part in ensuring that they are given proper consideration both by government and other agencies.

‘The priorities that come to mind include:

*How our beleaguered component supply industry can be helped to increase its exports into Western Europe now that we have seen the euro strengthen against sterling.

*How the competitiveness agenda has to be balanced with the long term needs of the consumer in respect of car usage;
