Paul Williams, the former UK boss of Kia, will be the new European head of Landwind, the emergent Chinese car brand, according to a report on Motor Trader.

Williams left Kia abruptly on the eve of the British International Motor Show in July.

Landwind Motor Corporation has a base in Brasschaat, Belgium, and formally announced its intention to launch into the European market at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The brand is initially expected to have a two-model line-up in continental Europe, an SUV and MPV.

The SUV is a re-worked version of the ex-Opel Frontera model which spectacularly failed to win any stars in crash tests conducted by ADAC, the German automobile club, last year.
