General Motors’ OnStar ‘personal connectivity and service assistant’, currently being launched by Vauxhall in the UK and Opel in Europe, has received an award from a top consumer magazine.
England’s Auto Express magazine awarded OnStar its 2015 Technology Award.
“It’s a high tech revolution that promises to make owning a Vauxhall an even greater experience for thousands of drivers across the UK,” the magazine said.
The European OnStar package includes 24-hour Automatic Crash Response, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, Roadside Assistance, Destination Download, Vehicle Diagnostics on important operating data as well as the remote control of various vehicle functions via the Smartphone App. From August 2015, OnStar Advisors, based in a service centre at Vauxhall HQ in Luton, will be available 24/7, 365 days a year to handle any incoming requests or emergencies.
With the introduction of OnStar, each Opel/Vauxhall will also become a mobile wi-fi hotspot. Up to seven mobile devices can be connected simultaneously. The driver can also use the hotspot when the car is stationary.
OnStar is launching initially in 13 European markets. Services will be free for the first year after activation.
