Jaguar Cars and Land Rover have selected RDM Group’s Auto-txt for car tracking and security systems for new vehicles from 2006.
Auto-txt is the technology behind the new Jaguar Watch and Land Rover Watch systems, which will be available in the UK and Europe. It is the first time the prestige car makers will offer a stolen vehicle tracking system under their own brand.
Using Bluetooth technology, Auto-txt immediately identifies a car as stolen if the car is started with the keys but the owner’s mobile phone is not present. Police can track the vehicle and prevent it from restarting using remote wireless technology once the vehicle ignition is turned off.
Auto-txt is the first stolen vehicle protection and tracking system to be awarded Category 5 accreditation by Thatcham, the motor industry research centre. Key features of Category 5 include a way of identifying the driver in addition to possession of car keys and the means to remotely disable a vehicle that has been stolen.
Auto-txt, which is also sold in the aftermarket, was developed by RDM Group, a Coventry based designer of electrical, mechanical and trim related systems for the automotive industry.
